If someone could help me find any examples of this music, let alone the name of this whole genre/subgenre, I would be very grateful. I don't think it's actually from then, but it has an older style. It has an older sound to it, like 30s-50s, but it seems like the recordings are always too high quality to be from then, and all French music that I find from those times is too brass-heavy and operatic.
It's "romantic" for lack of a better word. It is typically light and airy, especially the singing style, but also has an almost earthy, rustic tone to it.It is almost always sung by a woman in French and accompanied by (sometimes) string instruments and piano, possibly brass as well.I always hear it in those pleasant little cafes, restaurants, and antique stores, but I have no idea what to call it.
